Jake Owen's "Nobody Feelin' No Pain". Despite some of the work with Florida Georgia Line and the like, Jake Owen still makes good music that can be called Country. Sure, his older stuff is better (it always is, Luke Bryan is probably the most extreme example of this), but I'm really diggin' this song.

This is now a country thread. IMHO, nobody in the country game alive today can take Hank 3, including his dad.

I'm counting Loretta Lynn as OUTLAW COUNTRY for getting banned across the country by singing about The Pill:

Some of Hank III is country, most of it is way too punk. If you want modern real country, you can't do wrong with Jamey Johnson:
or Sturgill Simpson:

Even though it's on the same album as "Beachin", "What We Ain't Got" is a damn good song.

Funny you mention Jamey Johnson.
"In Color" is my theme for my great grandfather. Single greatest person I've ever met and I'm not just saying that because of the family connection. He's my hero. I visit my great grandparents once a month to listen to them tell their life story (my great grandmother came from HUGE MONEY (her father owned a steel company in the early 20th century). My great grandfather grew up dirt poor. His mom was my great grandma's cleaning lady. she brought him to work one day and now I exist. Holy shit. I could go on for hours about my great grandparents. I'll save it for my book lol.

Some of the lyrics to this song were so close to being my senior quote. I regret that they aren't. It is one of the last meaningful songs to win a Grammy. Definitely one of the best actually radio played Country songs in the last decade. Another one of Alabama's hidden gems.

I really like Jake. Really good performer, and puts out some really good songs. Sure, most of the stuff that gets played on the radio is more along the lines of "Beachin" (which is a pretty enjoyable song, just not really country), but there's a lot of good songs.
Luke Bryan seriously is the biggest example of having really good old songs and pretty garbage new stuff. We Rode In Trucks, What Country Is, Welcome To the Farm, all good songs.

Lived 30 minutes from there. Also, the Shoals is and has been very important to the music industry. We have Talledega if your into Nascar. We have beaches and mountains. We have peanuts and had George Washington Carver. We had the Tuskeegee Airmen. We also have the University of Alabama and a school down south of them that is interested in cows. Alabama has a lot, luckily most people don't know that.

Yeah, "Drink a Beer" is surprisingly good, especially since it's not another party song. This though, is what breaks my heart about Luke Bryan. So much potential lost.

Yea. Great song. Luke Bryan's had some major trajedy in his life I believe. Something like both his brother and sister died just a couple months apart right as he was starting his music career. The guy has huge talent, but unfortunately from a music standpoint, he also knows how to make money, which means his music departs from country.

Yep. I know it sounds cruel and selfish, but I like artists that don't really make it big. Simply because they don't become Fireball's PR team.

If you've ever seen the Saturn in the middle of I65, I lived 3 miles due west of that. Could see it everyday when I'd go out to leave my house.
